The solar system is a gravitationally bound system comprising the Sun and the objects orbiting it, formed 4.6 billion years ago. It features eight planets—four rocky inner worlds and four outer gas/ice giants—along with dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. Located within the Milky Way galaxy, our solar system orbits the galactic center.
